Upcoming Sim Development

•August 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment

A Homeless shelter….. because NYC would not be complete without one..
The shelter is still being built, and what we hope that it will provide is a contribution to the Second Life community as a whole, not just as part of the operation of the New York sims. The homeless shelter will provide temporary homes, or home logins to brand new second life residents at no charge. We will also provide boxes of freebie items and landmarks, information and  tips and tricks for getting around second life. All of this is still in the process of being compiled and built. Qualifying rules will be that an avatar will need to be less than 30 days old with a maximum ‘no charge rental’ of 30 days.

Sim Development

•August 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Some of you may have noticed that a NYC subway popped up over the sims. The track is one continuous loop encompassing the entirety of the 2 sims, with 4 stops, so far. It’s still not finished and needs some tweaking, and the sim crossings play havoc with the hair, but it’s definitely a needed attraction giving an added sense of reality to the sims.

We also removed the canal between the 2 sims and leveled out the land there. We felt that visitors to the sims stopped at the obvious sim border, and didnt cross over. Since the canal was removed we have seen that visitors keep on walking, thereby giving them the tour of both of the sims rather than just one or the other.

How the power on the sims is generated ..

•August 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Ever wonder how the power is generated to light up the streets or the lights in your apartments? Here’s a brief explanation…

On the corner of Staten Island stands the Department of Public Works, which houses the 130M tall hydro electric tower which generates the power for the sims. If you climb the ladder to the top, you will see a never ending thunderstorm which is caused by the collision point of the warm and cold waters of 3 sims, Staten Island, Meister and Sub Rosa. The tower collects the electricity from the storm at the top, channeling it down through the poles of the towers to the generator. The generator, then separates the positive and negative neutrons, discarding the negative and forcing the positive out through the cables at the end, into the wires which provides us with our power. Not to worry, the poles are insulated with rubber so no danger of electrified charge. For anyone who loves thunderstorms, there’s a sitting area at the top of the tower which provides a great view of the city.

Old New York’s First Live Performance

•August 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Our first ever live performance on Old New York in the Underground Club.
Karter Stonecutter, who, along with his lovely and charming wife, Madison Parks, have been long time residents here in Old New York. Karter is a long time keyboardist and performer whose background includes many classic rock touring bands as well as a long excursion in the dueling piano bar circuit. A good time, a solid performance and some lasting memories are what you can expect when you go to one of his shows. So we’re very excited to have him performing for us on:

Sunday, August 23rd at 4 PM SLT in the Underground Club

Please stop by, guaranteed that you’ll be tapping your toes and swinging your hips to his rhythm. Hopefully, this will be the prelude to having Karter do more live performances on the sims, as well as other live performances and events. And, it will be an opportunity for you to meet all your New York neighbors. Follow the SLurl to the Club …

Old New York – Acropolis and Staten Island

•August 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Background

Acropolis was acquired in March 2009 and took off almost immediately when it was opened to the public with its first rentals available. From there, it was a scramble to build the lofts and warehouses as quickly as possible to meet the demands of potential tenants. Since then a lot of tenants have come and gone, with a few long term that have stayed with us and watched the sims develop.

Staten Island was acquired in April, first as a homestead, while we began the development process, and then changed to a full sim in May. It has been a slower development project, and, of course, as we discover what works and what doesn’t work, the sims aare in an everchanging process. But, we have thoroughly enjoyed everything from the start, the building, the tenants and their antics, the development of a community and the positive comments that we have received from so many people, tenants and visitors alike.

The tenants here, in real life, are from all over the world; from real life New York City all the way to France, and everywhere in between, whichever way you go. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our tenants, longstanding and new, for the loyalty to the sims, the positive feedback, the suggestions and their value as an integral part of our Second Life community that has been built and continues to grow. They are the foundation of Old New York, and without them, we wouldn’t exist … so, we raise our glasses (or, at this time of day, our cups of coffee) to them, thanking them from the bottoms of our hearts … and now, on to more exciting news and developments …
